- Include all of your contact information: You want to make sure that the interviewer can reach you. Include your full name (you may exclude your middle name if you prefer), your address, phone number and e-mail address.
- Tailor your resume: Make sure that your objective and content is related to the job. You may need to revise the same resume several times if applying to multiple jobs.
- Include resume keywords: Be sure to add descriptive words that fit from the job description in your resume. This shows that you have actually read the description and have tailored your resume.
- Look at some resume writing examples/samples: Find other resumes that are available and see how others are writing their resumes. This can help you see the overall structure.

- Don't lie: Only include factual information about yourself. It is never a good idea to lie on a resume. Many employers do reference and background checks, and this will only hurt yourself.
- Use action verbs: Use words such as "planned," "managed," "demonstrated," etc.
- Update your resume regularly: Even if you do not have much to change on your resume, you should still update it regularly. There are always ways you can improve it. Maybe you could include more action verbs, shorten certain descriptions, add a few details, etc.
- Use a professional tone: Do not use jargon or slang! Many people should already know that resumes should never have any type of language that is nor professional. Slang should always be avoided, and it is never a good idea to assume that the employer will know the jargon you are using. Avoid it altogether
- Don't list hobbies: Even basic resumes should not have a hobby section. Unless you are absolutely sure that your hobby will be a benefit to the company. Otherwise, omit it.
- Create an e-mail version: Many employers now want resumes submitted in the body of e-mails and not as an attachment. Play around with your resume and create a draft that has the proper resume writing format in the body of the message.
- Quality printer: Print your resume from a quality printer and on white paper. If you do not have one, you can always take a scan disk and print at Staples or another printing shop.
